MAL077 - Tal-Giebja
Description
Tal-Giebja is a reservoir, intended for water storage, located in southern Malta in Ħal Kirkop. It is unclear whether the reservoir was originally mechanically excavated, however, limestone walls had been constructed around the site in order to increase water storage. The site is not accessible to the public as it is located within STMicroelectronics’s premises, and covers an approximate area of 5,600m2. The reservoir is predominantly surrounded by an industrial estate and lies adjacent to an active road, with a small amount of active agricultural land to the south. It is unclear what the water is used for. A couple of Eucalyptus camaldulensis are growing within the basin of the reservoir. The site is earmarked as a recreational area and is located in the transitional surface for runways.
