MAL079 - Hal Ginwi

Description

Hal-Ginwi is an artificially constructed pond, intended for water storage and irrigation, located in southern Malta within Żejtun . The perimeter of the pond is constructed out of cement blocks, in order to increase the water storage capacity. The pond is not accessible to the public as it is located on privately-owned land without any pathways, and covers an approximate area of 1,020m2. The reservoir is predominantly surrounded by agricultural land, thus it is likely that the reservoir is being used for irrigation. Two small, dense populations of Arundo donax are growing at the northern and southern parts of the pond’s basin. The site is located in the buffer zone of the Hal Ginwi Temple Site of Archaeological Importance.
